Campaign For Our Lives
*Relocalizing Tucson
for Resiliency, Sustainability, and Justice
in Swiftly Changing Times
CFOL Kick-off Organizational Meeting
Sunday, July 13th, 2008
1929 N. Forgeus Avenue
Tucson, AZ 85716
1:45 pm (get snacks and get settled) - 4:00 pm
The formal kick-off for Campaign For Our Lives is being planned for Friday, October 24, 2008. This event will pull together local government officials, movers and shakers concerned about the future of Tucson, people with major spheres of influence, and those who are already becoming part of the solution. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of critical issues that threaten the viability of Tucson from a systemic perspective, present a foundation for creating a relocalized infrastructure, give participants the opportunity to learn from experts/brainstorm about specific relocalization components of interest, and form an organization to catalyze public awareness and involvement as well as begin implementing the relocalization of our city.
In order for this critically important event to be successful, it will take many people with a wide range of abilities and skills on the planning team. If you are concerned about the increasing local impacts of Peak Oil, catastrophic climate destabilization, a collapsing national and global economy, and the impending alarming water shortage, please join us. There will be many ways to participate and varying levels of commitment to the planning process you can make.
Please let us know if you are coming by sending a message to
allison@reststop.net. A meeting agenda will be sent to you ahead of time.
Optional: bring a snack to share!
*Relocalization is the process to create a sustainable future based on
ecological wisdom, social justice, and economic equity. It entails moving
the production of food, energy, and essential goods closer to the point of
consumption and removing the need for consumption to substitute for
psychological and spiritual health and well- being. It uses steady-state
economics to create vibrant and resilient local economies that provide an
alternative to growth and centralized control hierarchies, and it enables
local autonomy within bioregional networks of mutual support.
For our fragile desert and its human inhabitants,
